We did the first nine of these, in three sets of three, published in 1994, 1995 and 1996. Each book consists of a collection of shots from a wide variety of international photographers, with technical information and lighting diagrams showing how the pictures were shot. Subsequent series have been produced by other editors but we are not alone in believing that several of these series have not been up to the same standard as ours.
The original (and excellent) idea came from the head of Rotovision, and the books are all flat fee. We stopped doing them for a number of reasons, principally that we felt that the photographers were being exploited, but also because we were getting stale. They have sold in very large numbers, in numerous languages, but the publishers had not the courtesy to send us any of the overseas editions. The German edition of Still Life (reproduced on the left, ISBN 3-87467-699-4)is the only one that has one of our pictures on the cover. For some reason the covers do not seem to have reproduced very well on this page.
